Advent: from Middle English, borrowed from Medieval Latin adventus, going back to Latin, "arrival, appearance,"…
In the Christian Church, Advent is the period of waiting, preparation, and anticipation for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
For us, Advent is also a time to reflect on the blessings of the past year, as we wait, and prepare for the coming year. We have had much to reflect on this year. In our third full year as International Executive Couple, we judge we are coming into our own, learning and growing in our leadership. It has been an exciting, sometimes exhausting year, as the ministry continues to move through the many transitions, which in reality, only fully began about 18 months ago.
We have seen the Staff grow more into their positions, striving to support UME, however they can. Our Committees are thriving, but also going through many of the same growing pains we are experiencing with the many changes. Communities are utilizing some of the programs available to engage and revitalize themselves. The Board of Directors and Executive Committee have been working diligently to maintain forward momentum and propel United Marriage Encounter into the next 50 years. In a word, UME is preparing, and waiting to see the fruit of that preparation.
As a couple, we implore you to take time to explore how you are preparing, both for Christmas and what you will do within the ministry of United Marriage Encounter in the coming year. There are many opportunities, both small and large, to serve, locally, and globally. Please reach out to us if you are feeling called to do a little more with UME.
We are thankful for the Community of Caring Couples who undergird United Marriage Encounter. Each of you is vital to this ministry, We are blessed.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Peace, love and joy,
Dan & Pat
