PRAYER

Updated: Feb 27

By Paul & Joyce Ruddell.

Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons we wield against Satan, the one who wants to steal, kill, and destroy what we do for God and through His UME ministry.  As the Prayer Committee helps nurture a culture of prayer throughout UME, we want to support our members in keeping themselves fortified against the enemy. Here are some ways to stay firmly grounded on God, the one who has the victory!

MAINTAINING OUR FOUNDATION

  • STAY ENGAGED WITH GOD’S LOVE AND  WORD

Stay grounded in the Bible. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus by consistently spending quiet time with Him, letting Him encourage and speak His love to us. When we focus on Him, no matter the circumstances, we are less likely to give in to temptations and lies. Moreover, we can only give love, strength, and comfort when we have first received them from God--so seek Him out regularly and receive His love, strength and comfort for you.

  • KEEP ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

God's spiritual armor helps guard us from the enemy's opposition (Ephesians 6:13-18).

  • Armor

  • Guards Us Against

  • Helmet of Salvation

  • Eternity without God

  • Breastplate of Righteousness

  • Condemnation, Guilt

  • Belt of Truth

  • Lies, Doubts

  • Shield of Faith

  • Worry, Fear, Anxiety

  • Sword of the Spirit

    (gives us discernment)

  • Confusion, Untruths

God’s armor—applied and recalled daily—enables us to stand firm in Him and find freedom from our struggles.

Questions:

  • Have I prayed this week?

  • How can I improved my prayer time during the week?

  • Do I pray in all occasions?

  • What is that thing that doesn't let me start the praying time?

Application:

Take 5 minutes and write a letter to God about your feelings this week, the ways you could feel Him in your daily life, and how grateful you are.

If, during this time, some Bible verses come to your mind, go and read them again.
