Who should attend a United Marriage Encounter Weekend?A United Marriage Encounter Weekend is designed to help good marriages become even better! So, should you be fairly newly-married or a seasoned marriage veteran, we believe that you love attending a UME Weekend together. Although many couples with troubled marriages have found value in the weekend, we recommend other programming for that need. See our Resources section to determine which one might be the best for you. ALL AGES & FAITH ARE WELCOME The vision of United Marriage Encounter is to transform, edify, and nurture one-man, one-woman marriages leading to stronger Christ-centered marriages, families, and a community of caring couples. Any married couple, regardless of age, length of marriage, or faith that will allow God to work in their marriage will find great benefits from a United Marriage Encounter Weekend. Our Weekends are non-denominational but Christ-centered. The ideas and methods you will learn have proven to start a transformation in couples. For some it is an awareness of God’s plan for them, for some it is a calling, and yet for others it a transformation back to earlier romance and friendship. Come see what kind of transformation God has planned for you.

Does the Weekend really cost what I paid when I registered? No, it actually costs quite a bit more! The registration fee per couple is used by the local community to purchase supplies and to offset costs to prepare for the weekend. UME provides the additional funding needed to pay hotel costs and meals through the generosity of couples who have attended a Weekend and have “Paid Forward” for you to attend. This is done through donations and ongoing annual contributions so that any couple can experience a weekend regardless of their ability to pay. You will be given the opportunity to “Pay Forward” for another couple on your weekend should you feel led to do so. We thank you in advance for your generosity; we quite literally couldn't do what we do without YOU!

What does a Weekend cost? The cost of attending a UME Weekend, including room, meals and other expenses, has already generously been paid for you through the donations of other couples. Others have paid this cost – over $840 per couple – as a gift to you. That's how much they believe in the transformation and value of a UME weekend. There is a one-time registration fee per couple, generally about $80, (it varies in different parts of the country) to cover other costs. The future of UME has always been dependent upon donations. Near the end of your Weekend, you will be invited to contribute to future Weekends for other couples, should you wish to do so. You are free to decide if and how much you want to give, so others can have the same opportunity. Your donation is tax-deductible in the United States. UME is a non-profit organization and is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability which reflects the highest standards of Christian stewardship.

Can we skip a session? No. The whole program is like a set of interlocking building blocks and builds on itself. If you leave some out the structure will be incomplete. Additionally, because your Weekend cost has been funded by individuals/couples we ask that you honor their generosity by making plans to attend the entire Weekend. Their donation was an investment in your marriage. If you can’t attend all sessions, please contact the Registration Couple or Community Executive couple to reschedule to a time when you can stay the entire Weekend – from 7:30 Friday night until 4PM Sunday afternoon.

How much Christian teaching is integrated into the Weekend? The primary focus of a United Marriage Encounter Weekend is to provide couples practical methods for improving communication, growing closer to each other, and strengthening the bond between husband and wife. We believe a successful marriage is a Christ-centered marriage. The Christian content in a UME Weekend is integral but not intrusive.
-
What if we do not go to church, or are non-believers?United Marriage Encounter welcomes all faiths, including non-practicing Christians and non-believers. Since our primary mission is to improve marriage, one man one woman legally married, any such married couple can enjoy and greatly benefit from attending a UME Weekend. Although there are discussions relating to a Christ-centered marriage as part of a successful marriage, the Christian content is presented without preaching.

We are interested in attending. Can we invite another couple to go with us?If you’d like to give another couple a chance to improve their marriage as well, by all means, invite them! Contact the UME office and we will send additional brochures and registration information to you.
