About the Couple
Bob and Debby grew up near each other in Central New York, but did not really know each other until Debby chose this boy from her church to write a Dear Lonely Serviceman letter to. They established a frequent penpal relationship which grew to a dating relationship on his first leave home and blossomed into a marriage relationship after only a few more in person visits.
Bob and Debby were fortunate to live in a few places around the world during Bob’s Army career while raising their three children. Post-Army they settled in Hilton, New York where they attended and served at the Hilton United Methodist Church. This is where they learned about United Marriage Encounter and decided to attend a UME Weekend in Rochester, NY in 2006. Bob and Debby joined EnCore shortly after their Weekend and were very regular attenders ever since.
Bob and Debby were a prime example of the faithful, quiet servants behind the scenes. They willingly helped with Weekends and events. For many years Debby coordinated their Core making the Cana banners for the Weekend couples. Bob’s technical knowledge came in very helpful any time a sound system or computer was needed.
Bob and Debby went on a trip to Alaska for their 50th Anniversary during the summer of 2024. Bob surprised Debby with a vow renewal ceremony performed by the ship’s Captain and he even thought of the flowers and cake!
